Academic ProgramAll campers have two academic periods each day, Monday through Friday. One period of instruction is language training and the other mathematics. The focus of each is to provide summer support to assist in maintaining skills acquired during the academic year. The intent is not remediation of skills in this three-week period of time, but to assist in preventing regression over the summer months that is often typical for our campers. These two core classes remain for the duration of the summer. For our international campers we offer ESL (English as a Second Language). This replaces the language-training course taken by our domestic campers.
Individual One-to-OneFor an additional fee, we offer 1:1 daily instruction for both language training and math classes.
Focus on Language TrainingThe language-training program emphasizes phonics, spelling, reading, writing, and vocabulary enrichment. Enormously effective in overcoming language-based learning differences and coping with the written word, language training has been the fundamental element of the curriculum at Linden Hill since 1961. Additional resources used include Explode the Code, Lindamood Bell, Wilson, Mega Words, and Read Naturally.
Focus on MathematicsThe mathematics program is appropriate to the participant's skill level. They emphasize basic math, algebra, and geometry. Participants develop a greater understanding of the mathematical concepts covered in the previous year, as well as familiarizing themselves with concepts that will be introduced in the upcoming school year.
Focus on English as a Second LanguageFor the non-native English speakers, this course provides special emphasis toward practical and effective communication skills, both oral and written. Using an approach similar to language training, these participants are introduced to the structure of the English language in speaking, reading, writing, and spelling. |
