Linden Hill Institute helps sponsor The Dyslexia Foundation 2009 Conference

On Friday October 16 the newly formed Linden Hill Institute helped sponsor The Dyslexia Foundation’s 2009 Conference. It was held at The Joseph B. Martin Conference Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. The Dyslexia Foundation’s mission is to promote scientific breakthrough in the early detection, prevention and remediation of dyslexia and related reading difficulties, to disseminate new findings and deploy new evidence based approaches, to prevent the suffering caused by reading failure and unlock the full potential of children and adults with dyslexia so that they may personally succeed and contribute to society.

This year’s conference was entitled Literacy and Dyslexia: The continuum of developmental reading and academic challenges. Those attending the day long workshop listened to noted specialists in the field of language learning differences which included Glen Rosen, Ph.D. Dyslexia Research Director at Beth Deaconess Medical Center, Dr. Joan Mele-McCarthy, D.A. CCC-SLP Director of Education – The Summit School, Edgewater, MD., April Benasich, Ph.D. Infant Studies Laboratory Director at the Carter Center for Neurocognitive Research at Rutgers University, Maryane Wolf, Ph. D. Director at The Center for Reading and Language Research, Tufts University, Laurie Cutting, Ph.D. Director at the Education and Brain Research Program at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Anthony Bashir, Ph.D. Director of the Writing and Academic Resources Center and Disability Services Coordinator at Emerson College.

LHS Board Chair David Cullenberg and his wife board member Tina, trustees Thomas Kaiser and Sebastian Scripps, Headmaster Jim McDaniel, Asst. Head Walter Sanieski and Academic Dean P.K. Sanieski were in attendance for this first endeavor from the Linden Hill Institute.
