| Linden Hill Lynx Win Greenwood Tournament! |
|
As always the Greenwood Tournament presented itself as the highlight of the soccer season. The boys waited anxiously all week wondering if the remnants of the previous week’s storm would prevent this opportunity. Fortunately the games were on! A strong breeze and sunshine provided the backdrop to the weekend’s events. Linden Hill had an impressive showing the first day of play going into the following day’s playoffs seeded first and undefeated. Sunday’s games offered Hilltop School as the first opponents. The previous day’s game against Hilltop had been the Lynx closest but they handled Hilltop with a 3-0 win taking them into the championship. Their final opponents were the Putney Grammar School. The Lynx were off to an early lead with a goal from Zayd. Strong defense by Michael in the net and hustle in the mid field kept the momentum going for the Lynx. An assist from Desmond set up what would be the game winning goal from Diego. Coach Russell kept the substitutions happening giving all members a chance to play in this most important game and providing instruction as players went in and came out. The second half offered a window of opportunity for Hilltop as they scored on a penalty kick but Michael quickly doused their hopes as he made some amazing saves. When the final buzzer went the Lynx were undefeated champions of the tournament, enjoying Linden Hill’s 4th championship in 5 years. This was an obvious team effort with everyone contributing! Job well done! |
