LHS Families Celebrating the Arts

Linden Hill holds a long tradition of instructing the boys on public speaking.  It started with George Hayes requiring a recitation of the Gettysburg Address each winter. Through the years that emphasis has turned to poetry as the boys choose a poem, memorize it, do a biography or analysis around it and an art project interpreting it.

This culminates each winter with the boys not only reciting their memorized poem in front of an audience of families and peers but with them producing their own original poetry. This year was no exception.

However, in addition to the wonderful fellowship and comraderie of bowling and the absolute magnificence of watching the boys recitations, a new component was added.  The Student Center transformed into an amzaing gallery showcasing the boys art, history, woodshop and computer projects.  Boys who take private instrument lessons performed and the entire school participated in an all-school sing.  The gallery offered the boys an opportunity to show their artwork to their parents and peers.  It also showed families that the Linden Hill arts program is growing rapidly and beoming a broader and more incompassing part of the curriculum. Everyone was filled with pride after a day that truly validated all of the hard work and efforts the boys have displayed this winter term.
